One of the benifits of volunteering at the American Airpower Museum, is the opportunity to get up close to some of the aircraft that visit on holiday weekends.  On one Memorial Day weekend a few years back, a Curtiss SB2C-5 "Helldiver" stopped by, and participated in the Jones Beach Air Show, as part of the segment saluting one hundred years of Naval Aviation.

I took a few pictures of this "Beast", or "Big Tailed Bastard", or "Sonofabitch-2nd Class", paying attention to details of the engine, landing gear, wing folds, dive flaps and wheel wells.

Pro Modeler, and it's re-pop by Accurate Miniatures, are the only really good models of this famous dive bomber in 1:48 scale,  Academy makes a really nice kit in 1:72.
